Respirable Crystalline Silica in Construction 4-Hour Course for Competent Persons per OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1926.1153 presented by the Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers.

The class will discuss the scope and applicability of the standard including the required knowledge needed by the Competent Person. The equipment/task-specific engineering controls table, exposure monitoring, written exposure control plan (ECP), respiratory protection requirements, training, medical surveillance, etc. will be discussed. An exercise on preparing ECP will be provided along with hands-on training for collecting air samples including information regarding what equipment is necessary, how to calibrate it and set the proper flow rate, and what issues must be addressed when requesting the laboratory analyses. A PowerPoint presentation for providing silica hazard communication training will be reviewed and provided to the attendees for use training their workers.
