Do you have the ASP or CSP in your sights? If you have wanted to study with other safety professionals, our Southern Nevada Chapter now hosts regular 2-hour sessions!

Attendance open to everyone! You don’t have to be a Southern Nevada ASSP member to join in. Dinner is brownbag format, with helpful study opportunities, followed by networking with friends and colleagues.

Each session will be different but we will cover as much ground as possible pointing you in great directions for preparation. NV SCATS training supervisor and chapter Member-At-Large Bobby Albright will bring his master trainer and facilitation skills to guide our group’s efforts.

If you are a member, there are scholarship opportunities if you attend the sessions, so come out and join in. Complement your attendance with an application for our Professional Development Fund!

Thanks to Member-At-Large Carey Sedlacek for arranging a host study room at College of Southern Nevada (CSN), in Student Union Room 123.

We hope to see you there!

  • SoNV February Meeting - Language Access & Workplace Safety
     February 17, 2026
     1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

A Matter of Life and Death: How Translating Safety and Training Materials Saves Lives

What’s a Language Access Plan, and what does it have to do with safety?

Learning Objectives: After this session, attendees will be able to…

  • Acquire a base knowledge of language services, such as the difference between translation/interpreting and subtitling/voice over. They’ll also learn data points about our industry’s changing demographics and the dangers specifically facing the non native English speaking community.
  • Analyze their organizations with a newly gained perspective to identify language access gaps that may not have been obvious before, such as regulatory compliance.
  • Apply newfound knowledge to build the framework for a language access strategy unique to their own organization, including safety and training strategies, mental health and suicide prevention initiatives, and recruiting/retention for great employees.

(This presentation will be submitted for CEUs. Interested in helping our chapter offer CEUs? Join the Program Committee!)

Presenter Background:

Loretta Mulberry is a Language Access Consultant helping to bridge communication gaps in the construction industry so that every team member can get the resources they need to learn effectively, work safely, and feel supported regardless of their English proficiency. She holds a Master’s Degree in Spanish Translation and Interpreting Studies and has been working in language services since 2016.
Loretta is the proud author of a Professional Safety journal article, Talk The Talk: Translating for Safety, and has presented at ASSP’s Safety2024 and Safety2025.

Member Rodd Weber has the green light to show us around The Strip’s most exciting new casino development. Get up close and personal with the iconic guitar as it rises from the desert floor.

Our tour scope will be a walk-through of the surrounding active worksite and access inside the guitar structure to observe safety policies and procedures in action.

This project rocks around the clock, all three shifts, and workers will be performing construction tasks during our visit. For this reason, strict adherence to all site safety rules and escort instructions will be always required.

Please arrive with all required PPE:

  • Hard hat (clarification pending on ANSI Z89.1 Type I vs. Type II)
  • High-visibility vest (clarification pending on ISEA 107 rating)
  • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87.1)
  • Work boots (ASTM F2413-18, I/C)

Our hosts will provide a brief site orientation and safety overview prior to starting the tour. Additional details regarding meeting location, parking, and site access will be shared closer to the tour date. PENTA looks forward to hosting us and showcasing their commitment to safety in the field!

Please shoot any questions to admin@asspsnv.org.

PLEASE NOTE: We anticipate that this event will hit capacity quickly. We will have the Wait List enabled. You may register a colleague to come with you. Please be sensitive that we will require confirmation 48 hours beforehand to hold your spot once registration is granted.

  • Region II Operating Committee
     March 12, 2026
     8:00 am - 5:00 pm

If you serve on the Southern Nevada Chapter board or if you’re interested in joining the board, you’re invited to the spring Regional Operating Committee (ROC).

Leaders from every chapter in our Region gather twice a year to share best practices, learn about ASSP initiatives, and network with other leaders. A chapter president or their proxy almost always attends, and some chapters send multiple elected leaders. Board members from the host chapter are always welcome to observe and participate — Southern Nevada, that’s YOU this time around.

Visit the event page on our Region website for more info and registration: https://region2.assp.org/events/spring-roc-thursday-march-6th/
